Valentine’s Day Cards to Make
We kept the tradition of making each other cards and writing words of affirmation within the family--husband to wife, and vise versa, but also mother to child, father to child, child to mother, child to father, child to siblings. Besides being great fun, Valentine’s Day was the perfect time to have a deadline that made sure we told our kids how much we loved them, and all the ways we were proud of them. Some fathers might feel funny writing a love letter to their sons, but sons need their father’s love as much as daughters do! We kept a folder of cards for each of the kids, and when they became adults and left home, they took all those words of affirmation with them. It feels pretty good for a parent’s heart to see those words of love, too, especially if things get bumpy during the teen years. It is also a terrific way to train your kids write love letters, too, so when they get married, their spouses can feel the love, and they can express it to their own children.
