Cut out a strip of purple paper (8 1/2 x 2 in. or 21x5 cm.) and a pink strip one third the width of the purple strip (3/4 in. or 2 cm.). Cut out a flower shape for each strip (see link below). Daisies need 2 layers. Cut out a yellow circle for the center of each flower. Use a pen cap or small round object to draw a pattern for the circle.

Glue the pink strip to the purple strip. Glue the 2 layers of daisy together. Glue the flower in the middle of the pink strip. Glue the yellow circle to the middle of the daisy.

Optional: Make a different flower for each candy cup. If you are in a hurry, make a flower other than a daisy since one layer is all you need for other flowers, or leave the flowers off altogether.

Glue the ends together as soon as possible-- If you wait until the glue dries on the two strips, the paper will warp and wrinkle when you try to glue the ends together.

Cut another pink strip and glue or staple it to the sides of the purple ring to form the basket handle. (8 1/2x1/2 in., or 21x1 cm.) Save time by cutting all the pink strips together--the sizes listed are ball park, so they can just as easily be the same sizes.

This 3-D cross is actually made out of 4 sheets of paper. Download the pattern, cut out the 2 shapes, glue them into 2 tubes, then squeeze them together. It is light weight, so easy to hang on a wall or bulletin board.

This banner proclaims the good news that tells why Easter is the most important day in all of history. Other options for words might be “Jesus is alive!” or “Hallelujah ,“ or even “Happy Day!”

Another way to use the strips is to make the them into napkin rings--just leave off the handle and the bottom.

They make cute little candy cups, too. Just add a handle and bottom. They are pretty flimsy, so don’t add candy until the cups are on the plates, or you may end up tearing all your hard work.

Dress up white candles for Easter with a sleeve of purple paper. Add paper doilies and tie it all on with pastel ribbons. Just make sure that the candles don’t burn down to the paper since this can be a fire hazard. Another option is to burn the candles down to where a tea light can fit in the melted area. Pour out any excess wax and put a tea light with metal liner in the hole. Then it will only burn as far as the metal liner. It can keep your pillar candle lasting longer since you can keep replacing the tea light when it runs out. Optional: Add some pink paper hearts with a bit more ribbon tied in with the bow on the middle candle.

Just as the candles look more interesting with layers of detail, the centerpiece looks more attractive with layers of materials. Start with a white tablecloth. Next layer on a purple table runner. This one is actually a scarf, but 2 or 3 sheets of purple paper would work just as well. Next a white plate is placed in the middle of the runner, then a pink piece of paper is cut to fit the inside of the plate. Finally the candles are arranged on this base. Three white candles on a bare table would not look very interesting, but adding lots of layers and details to the candles makes them an appealing centerpiece.

The white represents Jesus’ purity and helps us remember the white cloth that was left in the empty tomb.  The purple stands for the royalty of the King of Kings, and reminds us of when Jesus was mocked at his trial with a purple robe. The hearts make us think of God’s love for us to make such a great sacrifice.

To make a bottom, you can glue or staple a muffin liner inside this sleeve. If you don’t have muffin liners, cut a circle out of paper, and cut slits around the edge every quarter inch (1 cm.). Fold these flaps up, and glue them to the inside of the purple ring.

Making a special day feel special doesn’t have to take a lot of work or money. Decorations are one easy way to make it memorable. With just a little effort, you can make everyone feel like something special is about to happen. These decorations are all made out of paper, so they are cheap and quick.
