Palm branch--a craft for Palm Sunday
Let the kids cut out a palm leaf with a verse, or the word, “Hosanna”. If you do this craft before the lesson, you can encourage the kids to shout, “Hosanna” and wave the palm branch when you tell the story of Jesus riding into Jerusalem on a donkey.
1.Fold a green sheet of paper in half.
2.Cut the folded paper in a leaf shape--start cutting from next to the fold to form a point on the short end, and keep cutting toward the middle of the outer edge (NOT the folded edge), then back to a point next to the fold on the opposite short end.
3.Clip skinny triangles along the edges while it is still folded--cut them on the diagonal rather than straight.
4.Open the paper to reveal the palm branch.
5.Write the word “Hosannah” or a verse on the leaf.
Note: It may be easier to photocopy a pattern for each child.
Flower basket
Make Flower baskets to celebrate the new life we have in Christ.
1.Cut corrugated paper into a basket shape.
2.Glue the flower basket to a background card. On the background card, handwrite or photocopy phrases such as, “He is Risen!” or “Hallelujah!” On the inside of the card, print a verse or a simple version of the Easter story.
3.Fold 2 inch (5 cm.) squares of colored paper in half (into a triangle), in half again, and a fold in half a third time, still in a triangle shape.
4.Cut the wide end of this folded triangle into a rounded shape, and open into a flower. Make these flowers ahead of class if the children can’t cut through so many layers of paper, or to save time. Use colored tissue paper to make the flowers easier to cut. See photo below.
5.Glue the flowers to the card above the basket.
Note: Save time by cutting everything ahead of class, and just have the kids assemble the flower baskets. Another option is to use flower stickers.
For a craft that takes a bit longer, let the kids weave paper strips to form the basket (shown in the photo above, on the right)

Paper Cross in Paper Shadowbox Frame
1.Use pattern to cut out cross and heart.
2.Make a shadowbox. Optional: Write a phrase or verse on the frame, such as, “Forgiven” or “He is Risen” or “Jesus loves me” (see the link below for detailed instructions.)
3.Fasten the heart to the cross, and then the cross to the shadowbox using foam style double stick tape, or make paper loops. (see link below for detailed instructions)
To save class time, do steps 1 and 2 ahead of time (make the shadow boxes, and cut out the crosses and hearts.) Then in class let the kids fasten the cross and hearts into the shadowboxes.
