Pile flowers into a pedestal bowl for a simple centerpiece. If the flowers come from your garden, it is very low cost! It may be hard to get flowers to stand up with such a wide mouth. Cut a plastic bottle, such as a Coke bottle, to the same height, or a little taller than the bowl. Fill the bottle 2/3 full with water, and place it in the middle of the bowl. Then pour more water in the bowl. Start with arranging flowers in the bottle, then fill in the bowl with more flowers. Make sure the flowers in the outer ring (in the bowl) hide the plastic bottle in the center. Put a taper candle on each side of the flowers, and you have an elegant table. If you are thinking lilies might be a good choice for Easter, remember how strong the perfumed scent is, and how it does not mix well with food. You might want to choose a different flower for a centerpiece. Put green striped placemats under each plate to repeat the subtle green color from the flowers.  If you don’t have a garden with fresh flowers, artificial flowers might be a less expensive option.

Add similar flowers to a heart basket or vine wreath on the wall to tie the look of the whole room together. This is simple to do with artificial flowers. If you want to use fresh flowers, there are 3 ways to do this.

1. Use oasis (green foam for fresh flowers.)  Find a shallow container to protect the basket from the wet foam, such as a margarine tub lid. Anchor it to the wreath with florist wire (or twist ties) through 2 or more holes. Use a box cutter to cut the oasis to fit the plastic container, and soak it in water a minimum of 30 minutes. Fasten the oasis to the margarine tub lid with more wire, then poke the stems of the flowers into the oasis.

  1. 2.Some flowers are sold with little plastic  containers on each stem. They look like mini plastic “test tubes” with rubber tops with a hole in the center for the stem to go through. When you buy flowers with these on them, wash them out and save them for a place like this. You might be able to buy these directly from a florist--you don’t know till you ask! I have never tried it, but you might even be able to tie a water balloon tightly onto the end of each stem. I just don’t know if the flowers would react poorly to the rubber. Flowers wilt very quickly in a paper cup, so water balloons may have a similar problem. I’ll have to trie it and see!

  2. 3.Wire a pretty jar(s) in place, and tie a ribbon around it to hide the wire. Fill the jar(s) with water, and put the flowers into the jar.

Here is a way to do a similar arrangement, but not use as many flowers, since a big flower arrangement can be expensive, as well as block the view of the people across the table. Put water in the bottom of a pedestal bowl, put a candle in the middle, then drop flowers around the base of the candle. Another option is to use a battery operated candle with artificial flowers.
