Decorate-the-Christmas-Tree for individuals

Let the children decorate their own tree by sticking a circle on the tree for each correct answer. The individual with the most decorations wins. Young children especially like to be hands on, so providing a tree for each child is a great idea! Using office stickers makes it pretty easy, and inexpensive for each child to do. This can also de-emphasize competition since the focus is on decorating a Christmas tree rather than counting points. If you really want to splurge, you could buy a pack of star or Christmas stickers to decorate instead of, or along with, the dot stickers. Kids may get carried away with decorating their trees, but don’t be too strict about how many stickers they use--their little brains can’t quite keep track of so many things at once. Besides, it’s all about making it fun to answer questions, and where is the fun in taking off decorations just because they didn’t earn every one?

Time saving hint: cut out a lot of green triangles at once by cutting 3 or 4 sheets of paper at a time.

Decorate-the-Christmas-Tree for teams

This game can also be a team style game--just cut out a tree for each team, and let individuals from the team put circles on their team’s tree. The team with the most decorations wins. There are several different ways to make these.

  1. 1.Paper and sticker version--this is a one-time use--cut out a green paper tree for each team, and use office sticker dots to decorate the trees (see photo above. It may be more exciting if you gave them Christmas stickers to use. If they start fighting over stickers, start taking them off the trees, and they will behave quickly!))

  1. 3.Magnet (and paper) version

Cut out a green paper tree for each team. Instead of using stickers, use magnets to decorate the tree. The cheapest magnets may be sheet magnets that can be cut into shapes. If you don’t have a magnetic white board to put the tree and magnets on, use a cookie sheet.

  1. 4.Miniature tree version

If you already have 2 tiny trees and ornaments, it wouldn’t cost a thing to use this exciting way to score points. Sometimes you can find these at dollar stores (hundred yen stores), so it doesn’t have to be an expensive option if you don’t already have them.

  1. 2.Felt or flannel version

Cut a tree for each team out of green felt, then cut shapes from different colors of felt to decorate the tree. If you don’t have a flannel board, glue felt or flannel to a large piece of cardboard, and cover the edges with colored duct tape.
