Christmas “Amazing Race” Game
If “The Amazing Race” is a television show that is broadcast where you live, the kids may enjoy a game that imitates the show. It can be as simple or elaborate as you want to make it, but the more closely it follows the show, the more fun the kids will think it is. The minimum materials you would need would be a map of Israel (purchased or home made), and markers for each team to make a road--to see which team travels to Bethlehem first-- the shepherds team, wisemen team, or Mary and Joseph team. The wisemen have to travel twice as far, so to be fair, they should get twice as many road pieces for each question as the other teams. Award a piece of road for each correctly answered question. The smaller road pieces are, the more questions can be asked.
To imitate the game show more, you can put each question in a yellow envelope. Give each team a silly challenge do in order to get the question envelope. If they answer the question correctly, they can get a piece of road to move forward toward the goal of reaching Bethlehem first.
The road pieces pictured above are magnets. If you don’t have a magnetic whiteboard or cookie sheet to fasten on magnets, you could use pieces of paper road pinned to a cork board, or play the game on a table so the playing pieces doesn’t have be fastened to the background.
