Make a Chess Game
1.Use the computer to make a grid of black squares alternating with white spaces--8 rows of 8 squares--4 black and 4 white on each row. If you want a bigger board, make half the board on one page and print two pages to make a complete game board.
2.Print onto white paper or uncut label paper that has peel off backing.
3.Mount this game board (see options for mounting game boards)
4.Make chess pieces--here are 4 different ways--1)make them out of air drying clay, or 2) make them our of clay that can be baked in a standard oven, or 3) screw together nuts and bolts for the pieces, 4) download and print out the game board and chess pieces at activityvillage.co.uk.

This ancient game was created in India.
1.Use the computer to make this game board. If you want a bigger board, make half the board on one page and the other half on another page. Print both pages to make a complete game board.

Make a Cops and Robbers Game
1.Use the computer to put a square in each corner of the page and one in the middle. If you can draw the lines between the squares on the computer, do so, and if not, draw them in by hand once it is printed out.
2.Print out the game board on colored paper or uncut label paper that has peel off backing.

5.Optional: Let the kids draw in cartoon figures.
How to play the game: Each player puts a token on the board in one of the squares. The cop tries to corner the robber. Tokens can only be moved between squares on the designated paths.
Make a Nine Men’s Morris Game
This game was created in ancient Rome.
1.Use the computer to make three concentric squares and 4 lines to join all 3 squares.
2.Print out the game board on colored paper or uncut label paper that has peel off backing.

How to play the game: each player puts 9 tokens on the intersections. The two players then take turns moving their players into rows of 3, which enables them to remove one of the opponent’s tokens. The game is won when one of the players tokens has been reduce to 2 or can’t move.

Make a Snakes and Ladders Game
1.Use the computer to make a game board with 20 to 100 squares (the more squares there are, the longer it takes to play the game.) Mark the beginning and end, and add arrows and/or numbers to show the direction play should move.
2.Print out the game board on colored paper or uncut label paper that has peel off backing.
3.Give the kids paper and markers to draw snakes and ladders where ever they fancy.
4.Color the game boards.

How to play: Players take turns moving playing pieces according to the spinner or dice. When a player lands on a space with a ladder, they get to climb the ladder to the space above the ladder. If they land on the a space with the head of a snake, they have to slide down to the space at the tail of the snake. The first person to reach the final square wins.
