To make this Mother’s Day banner, download the pattern. If you want to save printer ink, print in grayscale and use it as a pattern to cut out colored paper. (You will need to cut out the background and also the letters in contrasting colors for this method.) For either method,  be sure to leave an inch margin at the top of each letter when cutting out the letters. This is to fold over the string in the back of each letter, which makes hanging easier--so that you can fasten the ends of each string to the wall, rather than fastening each letter to the wall.

Fasten the “HAPPY” letters together on one string, and “Mother’s Day” on another string. To do this, lay the letters out in order. Flip them upside-down so that the top of the letter is near you. WARNING: If you flip the letters toward the back sideways, the words will be glued on the string backwards.  Lay the string across the tops of the letters. Glue the inch flap to the back of each letter with the string sandwiched between the layers. (The photo has red letters rather than pink, but it is done in the same way.)

Alternately, you can punch two holes at the top of each letter with a hole-punch and string the string through these holes.

Fasten the letters to the wall with mounting putty such as Fun-tack or Blu-tack.
