Our dining room table is narrow, so I made a long narrow candle holder with 3 candles in a row. It is a wooden board painted white, and then I glued on candle cups from a craft store, and ceramic flowers from the 100 yen store--not very expensive or hard to make.

Two Ways to set the table with a crown of thorns

Add candles to a crown of thorns for a simple centerpiece. Sheep are placed in front of the folded napkin as a decoration on each plate. These were purchased at Walmart at Christmas time. You could sandwich place cards between the sheep and napkin. The table shown above could be used for Good Friday with black candles, and you could even use black paper napkins.

The centerpiece above is identical to the one on the left, but the flowers sprinkled on the table make it look much more festive, so it may be good for celebrating Easter Sunday. More flowers are sandwiched under a clear glass plate.

This centerpiece is made from a vine wreath with artificial flowers poked into it. If you want to make it with fresh flowers, cut oasis to fit a shallow container, soak with water, and poke flowers into the ring. Candle stands with purple candles are placed inside the wreath. All items were purchased at 100 yen stores.

Slender taper candles are combined with plastic eggs in a clear glass bowl and placed on top of a blue napkin. Paper napkins are accordion folded and placed in the goblets. Flower shaped candles decorate the plates.

These pillar candles (from a 100 yen store) are all the same height, so I stacked two identical ones in the middle to give it more height. I added the wax flowers (from a craft store) on the sides to make it more festive. They are placed on an embroidered cloth.

A paper napkin has been wrapped around the base of taper candles and tied with curling ribbon. This could be dangerous if the candles burn too low, so put out the flames before they get too short. Flower candles decorate the plates. All items purchased at 100 yen stores.

This time the paper napkin is flat on the table and the taper candles are combined with egg candles, also purchased at a hundred yen store.

In this arrangement, the egg candles are placed on candle holders and napkin rings, and combined with flower candles. The napkins are accordion folded and placed in a napkin ring. You can make egg candles by poking a fairly large hole in the top of eggs (use them in cooking.) Rinse out shells and let dry. Melt candle stubs and pour into the eggs. Use wicks from the candle stubs and push into the wax when it is starting to harden. An egg carton will keep the eggs upright. Crack off the shells and melt the bottom so it will stand upright.

This time the wreath is only partially covered with artificial flowers. Fresh flowers could be used if placed in a small vase or bottle. The candles, flowers, and napkins all match, and a table runner in a contrasting color adds interest.

This arrangement is almost identical, but I included it anyway, to show how you can use different items to achieve a similar look. You are not likely to find exactly the same items as I have, but you can find items locally that you like, and just keep rearranging them until you like the way they look.

Pretty napkins can dress up a plain table. Here a napkin is placed under each plate, and another one is folded in a triangle and tied with curling ribbon on top of the plate. The napkins, floating candles and bowl for the candles can were all purchased at 100 yen stores.

This time a napkin was put under the bowl with floating heart candles, the hearts representing God’s love for us by sending his son, represented by the crocheted cross. Crocheted crosses can be ordered from Oriental Trading Company.

The paper napkins are folded and put in the goblets. Flower and heart shaped candles floating in the bowl are color coordinated with  the napkins. A plastic egg with a treat is on each plate.
