Chocolate roll cake and crown of thorns

It takes 3 roll cakes to make a cross cake. I prefer the taste of the cakes that are sold in the dairy case of the grocery store, but if you are feeding a crowd, you may prefer to use the cheaper roll cakes.

Cut one cake in half for the cross pieces and put on either side of the other two roll cakes. Slide strips of tin foil 1-2 cm. under the cake to keep the plate clean.

Mix cocoa and sugar with whipping cream  to taste and whip until thick. Spread on with a spoon. Since this is imitating wood, it o.k. look rough. Once the cream is spread on, remove tinfoil and wipe off any drips on the plate. An alternate flavor for the whipping cream: Strong coffee along with the cocoa, or in place of it.

Melt chocolate and put it in a decorator bag. Cut off the tip and squeeze a crown of thorn shape onto a sheet of tinfoil.  Put it in the refrigerator to harden. Peel it off the tinfoil and arrange it on the cake.
